Films for Transparency

Films for Transparency

Films4Transparency (F4T) is a unique film festival aiming to raise awareness on issues of corruption, injustice, human rights violations and the demise of public accountability. Founded in 2016, the festival takes place across the globe showcasing compelling films and documentaries that expose corruption and injustice and aim to inspire citizens to take action against these issues. To date, there have been six editions of F4T in different parts of the world.

The IACC Series enjoys long-standing partnerships with international power houses like the renowned DOC SOCIETY production organisation to produce this anti-corruption film festival.

With a carefully curated international program that is both critical and relevant, F4T operates as an amplifier to the issues tackled during each IACC, presenting solutions in the fight against corruption and showcasing alternatives for a fairer, more equitable world while providing a space for the audience to dialogue with experts, directors and producers.

    • F4T @ the 18th IACC, Copenhagen, 2018

The conference theme Together for Development, Peace and Security – Now is the Time to Act is informed and enriched by the daily realities, filmed over a period of many years, of people who have decided to take action. Women feature strongly in front of and behind the camera, in peace building and non-violence, speaking truth to power and challenging patriarchal impunity. The films investigate the role of international justice, expose the complicity of supranational corporations and institutions and illuminate the courage and struggles of the whistle-blower. The protagonist/s and film-maker from each film are attending the conference and will be taking part in post show panel discussions.

      • F4T @ San Jose Film Festival, 2017

This year the second edition of FILMS FOR TRANSPARENCY will take place in San Jose, Costa Rica from the 7th to the 10th of December. By showcasing real-life stories through documentaries, a key objective of the festival is to prove that every citizen can step up and fight corruption.

We, the government of Costa Rica, the Costarican Centre of Film Production, Transparency International, and the Association Costa Rica Integra (TI Chapter of Costa Rica), are creating a programme that is critical, proactive, relevant and topical with international titles and a strong Latin American approach.

The programme will showcase documentaries that deal with the issue of corruption and its relation to human rights, security, environmental issues and gender. It is estimated to show around 10 feature films (4 fictional, 6 documentaries) and one short film. All screenings will be free of cost and open to the general public.

In addition, a large number of international guests will attend the festival, among which there will be renowned directors, producers, and journalists, all representing their movies in order to generate dialogue with the audience after the screening. The festival will ensure a dialogue to share experiences with local and international civil society and the press.

Cinema and audiovisual media have undoubtedly become the most effective tool to raise awareness, report injustices, promote advocacy and to move the audience’s sensitivity, weaving bridges for small and large actions alike. Aware of this power, Transparency International has teamed up with ECOCINEMA and BRITDOC to produce FILMS FOR TRANSPARENCY – Anti-Corruption Film Festival in parallel to the 17th IACC.

With a carefully curated international program that is both critical, proactive, relevant and newsworthy, FILMS FOR TRANSPARENCY operates as a continuum to the issues tackled during the IACC, presenting proposals and experiences for the combat of corruption, and showcasing alternatives for a fairer, more equitable world while offering the audience the opportunity to dialogue with experts, directors and producers.

Through 16 screenings in our 3 venues and specialized round-tables at the Atlapa Convention Center, FILMS FOR TRANSPARENCY aims to open both eyes and hearts to what is going on in other countries and under our very noses.

All outdoor screenings are free of cost and open to general public, using ECOCINEMA sustainable technology.
