• Rhizomic Resistance: How Distributed Civil Society Networks Outmaneuver 21st-Century Kleptocracy

  Kleptocracy spreads like a rhizome: borderless, decentralized, regenerating when cut. Traditional anti-corruption institutions, vertically organized and nationally bounded, cannot match it. This workshop examines three pioneering transnational, interdisciplinary civil society formations — the Anti-Corruption Data Collective, Arctida, and Accountability Lab — as models of rhizomic resistance.

  We will play a game together, called Kleptocrat: How to Hide Dirty Money. The session will immerse you into the choices faced by corrupt public officials, as they take public money, structure how to hide it, move the money, network with enablers and finally, take the money out and enjoy it. Playing as the corrupt official will clarify for you how to investigate and expose these abuses.
